What Unbalances Everyone’s Pitta Dosha?

Our Pitta dosha increases when the weather is hot and humid, when we are working under tight time schedules, when passion or anger is high, and when driving in dense traffic (from the car fumes) and working with computers for long. You will also increase your Pitta if you are -

Physical Level

  • working too intensely
  • eating foods that give you heart burn (especially oily or spicy food)
  • eating a lot of red meat, salt or shell fish
  • getting very hungry
  • not drinking enough pure water
  • living on coffee and/or cigarettes
  • drinking too much alcohol
  • eating a lot of tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes or raw onions
  • in front of a computer screen too many hours a day
  • never away from a mobile phone
  • being competitive even in leisure time
  • getting very hot and not cooling down
  • practice hot yoga
  • exercise in midday heat
  • living in hot and /or humid climates
  • sitting in the sun
  • working in intense heat
  • breathing any type of fumes (traffic smoke, cleaning agents)
  • not getting out doors enough
  • hormones in turmoil
  • taking drugs

Mental Level

  • oppressed by deadlines
  • needing things to be more perfect than they can be
  • unreasonably jealous
  • not loved or appreciated
  • overly sexual
  • easily moved to anger

Spiritual Level

Feeling that...

  • I have become dogmatic and intolerant
  • I have lost my passion
  • My heart is not singing
  • I feel disillusioned

Suggestions To Help Balance Pitta Dosha:

At these times try to -

  • Try to go with the flow and laugh more
  • Accept loving care
  • Keep cool - physically and mentally
  • Eat plenty of greens and fresh fruits
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Spend time near lakes, rivers or the ocean
  • Get outside more
  • Avoid alcohol and drugs
  • Avoid oils, fried foods, salty and spicy dishes
  • Avoid caffeine
  • Trust your feelings and express them in ways that support you and those around you
  • Play more
